Sprint Car

The Sprint Car

If you have a love for racing, but are looking for something different than the normal stock car race, then you should look into sprint cars. This type of racing offers a lot of speed and a huge thrills. With fans in New Zealand, the United States and Australia, this type of car racing has really taken off in the past few years. If you are not familiar with the concept of sprint car racing, then you should know that it takes place on either oval short tracks or circular tracks. These cars can run on either dirt or paved tracks and are very high powered.

Because these vehicles are extremely high powered and go at excessive speeds, a sprint car race can be very dangerous. In the past, there have been many injuries and even fatalities due to the vehicles not being as safe as they should have been. In the past few years, there have been many different adjustments made to these car auto racing vehicles in order to try and improve their safety. One of the items that has been added to the sprint cars in order to improve safety for the drivers is the roll cage.

The roll cage provides better safety when the vehicles are in an accident and flip over. Another item that has helped increase safety is the wing. The wings that are attached to the vehicles actually increase traction on the cars by being able to provide down force. They also provide protection to a certain degree when the cars are involved in an accident.

Wings had never been seen on a sprint car before 1958. The first time they made an appearance was at the Columbus Motor Speedway, in Columbus Ohio. At this time, the wings did not instantly take off. It was not until the 1970s that car racing sports drivers started seeing the benefit of adding wings to their sports auto sprint cars. The huge benefit was improved control because of the down force generated.

Sprint car racing is not the only car racing sport that involves danger; however, the speed of the vehicles and the power that is behind them adds a raw thrill to the sport. Even with all of the safety implements that have been added to these vehicles there will always be an element of danger. This however, is what draws many of the fans to the races on race day. Whether it is the danger of the sport, the speed of the cars or the just the thrill of watching live races, the fans truly love this sport. Interestingly, many Indy car racing drivers, as well as many Nascar drivers, made their start in sprint racing before moving on to higher divisions.

Today's Tip On Auto Racing

One of the most popular forms of racing today is stock car racing. This can be seen by the popularity of the Nascar Nextel Cup. All stock cars used in Nascar must be original production cars; they cannot be specially designed for racing. They can, however, be modified for performance. One common modification is the spoiler that is seen on nearly every stock car used in racing. It is placed on the rear of the car and moves the air in such a way that there is a great downward force on the car, keeping it from overturning during a stock car race.
